2005 witnessed the birth of MetaTrader 4 (MT4), a widely popular and recognised trading platform designed by MetaQuotes that remains the go-to trading software for Forex trading. Importantly, though, similar to MetaTrader 5 (MT5), MT4 can also be used to trade CFDs (Contract for Differences) on a number of asset classes, such as stocks, indices, cryptocurrency, and commodities.
Fortunately, for those who prefer to trade on the go, MT4 is available on desktop as well as mobile devices. MT4 mobile applications facilitate trading on the financial markets using iOS and Android-powered smartphones and tablets. The mobile version's functionality is comparable to the desktop version and features interactive quotation charts, a full range of trading orders, and the most popular technical analysis tools.
Automated trading is a standard way to trade financial markets. The ability to code algorithmic trading strategies is one of the key features of MT4, permitting Expert Advisors (EAs) and custom technical indicators through the MQL4’s programming language.
First and foremost, check the current version: click Help in the MT4 toolbar on your platform, scroll down and select About. A small window will subsequently appear, highlighting the current version (on the left side of the popup box) of MetaTrader. Ensure it is the current version.
Manually update MT4 on a PC.
The initial step here involves right-clicking the MetaTrader icon on your desktop. The trader must then choose the Run as Administrator option to run the program as an administrator. To be clear, the most recent version will be installed automatically when MT4 or MT5 is launched on an online device.
Depending on your version of Windows, you may simply choose to update MT4 by reinstalling the trading platform. To achieve this, through the Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs and then scroll down to the MetaTrader program. From here, select Uninstall, and MetaTrader will be removed from your computer.
To reinstall MT4, and therefore gain the latest version update of MT4, visit the MetaTrader website and reinstall the software: https://www.metatrader4.com/en
As a side note, some MetaTrader 4 users may be content with their pre-existing MT4 installation and be dissuaded from updating the MT4 platform. Nevertheless, analysis shows that abstaining from updates could make you miss out on newer features and pose security threats to your trading operation. Regular MT4 updates not only improve the functionality of your trading platform but are also essential for security. However, be aware that the MT4 auto-update has a history of malfunctioning and missing fresh updates.
When MetaQuotes releases a new program version, the MetaTrader platform is usually updated when the investor next logs in. Should your platform fail to update automatically, it might be because of limitations with your device, such as an outdated computer or mobile device. Normally, when the platform is online, it routinely checks for upgrades and new releases. It will download the update and notify the user if an update is available. You'll then see Finished printed in the Terminal's Journal tab when all the updates have been downloaded and completed.
There are a few ways to manually update the platform to its most recent version: two of the simplest methods are the Run as Administrator option described above and reinstalling the newest version, which we also described above (and simplified below).
Allow the software to uninstall, and then press Finish. To reinstall the software, download the MetaTrader 4 platform and follow the instructions on the following website: https://www.metatrader4.com/en
