BP bids for new Dutch offshore leases

On Thursday, BP submitted bids for two offshore wind leases in the Netherlands that together have the potential for generating capacity of 1400MW. Reuters highlights that the company increases its focus on renewable energy.

The company said it would invest 2 billion euros in more clean energy projects in the Hollandse Kust (West) zone, located 53 kilometers off the Netherlands’ west coast, if it is successful in the bids, which include a commitment to spend 75 million euros on ecological monitoring in the North Sea.

Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, BP’s Executive Vice President of gas and low carbon energy, mentioned that ”Delivering a net zero future demands more than just generating renewable power offshore – we need to create an integrated energy system with renewables at its center’’.

The company now aims to produce 50,000 tonnes a year of green hydrogen from the wind farms, to support sustainable aviation fuel production of 10,000 barrels per day, along with developing electric vehicle charging stations.
